Avijit Roy, a versatile artist, showcases a diverse portfolio of artwork, notably featuring beast-based drawings and intricate sculptures. Born in West Bengal in 1962, he obtained his V.A.F.A. from Rabindrabharati University and later pursued a post Diploma in Graphic Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. University in Baroda. Avijit’s works exude immense energy, evident in his depictions of the mammoth black bull in various forms. Through his adept use of Chine Colle technique, he brings out the subtle colors and textural contrasts, seen even in his striking renderings of the Buddha. The artist’s sculptures and paper-based artworks, such as rows of knives framed or scrolled, convey messages of resilience and harmony. Avijit’s talent extends to collaborating with a fashion designer for his bull series for menswear, and his ‘knife’ series reflects a peaceful, empathetic stance.
