Jogen Chowdhury, born 19 February 1939 in Daharpara, Bangladesh, is an eminent Indian painter celebrated for his mastery of line and expressive distortion. He graduated from the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata in 1960 and later studied at École nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris in 1967.
Developing a distinctive style after his return from Paris, Chowdhury created works in ink, watercolor, pastel, and oil that emphasize figures through curves, distortions, and tactile use of color. His art has been exhibited widely in India and abroad, earning him honors such as the Kalidas Samman, Banga Bibhushan, and Prix le France de la Jeune Peinture.
The artist lives and works in Santiniketan, India.
