Mark Adams, born in Fort Plains, N.Y., studied abstract art with Hans Hoffman in New York after attending Syracuse University. Initially a tapestry and stained-glass designer, Adams created notable works for Temple Emanu-El and Grace Episcopal Cathedral in San Francisco. His tapestries are displayed at the de Young Museum and San Francisco International Airport. Later in life, Adams shifted to watercolors, where his style involved transforming everyday objects—like ties and bowls of jello—into works of art with vivid, delicate, and translucent color washes. His unique approach brought new meaning and expression to the ordinary, establishing him as a distinguished figure in contemporary art.
