Shankar Kendale, an alumnus of Abhinav Kala Vidyalaya, Pune, draws inspiration from the rich cultural fabric of rural India. His works celebrate the country’s vibrant but fading folk traditions, using his preferred mediums of pen, ink, and charcoal. Kendale’s minimalist black-and-white drawings highlight the interplay of light and shadow through the technique of chiaroscuro. His latest series focuses on intricate details—brass pots, pigeons, and ethnic portraits—capturing their raw essence without the distraction of color. Known for his evocative compositions, Kendale’s art invites reflection and introspection, bringing forth the quiet beauty of everyday life.
