William Stewart, a native of Waco, Texas, spent his formative years in the vibrant art scene of New York City during the 1960s and 70s. Currently residing in Taos, New Mexico, he teaches drawing and painting at the University of New Mexico, Taos. Stewart has a lifelong passion for painting and a diverse teaching background, spanning from Palma de Mallorca, Spain, to various universities and museums, including City College, NYC, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. His exhibitions include O.K. Harris Gallery in NYC, Rudolph Zwirner Gallery in Germany, and the Paris Biennale. In 2010, he exhibited at Prince Street Gallery in NYC. Recently, a residency in Venice through the Emily Harvey Foundation inspired a new series of abstract watercolors, which he will continue to develop at The Watermill Center.
